Impact. First off, it will serve as a vitally needed recruiting tool for new volunteers, showing that Roger BelAir’s program is safe and gratifying (as one volunteer said, “Teaching pickleball in prison improves my life.”). Second, this documentary will make it easier for this program to “get the paddle through the door,” to influence wardens and be adopted in other facilities. To date, Roger and his volunteers have brought the program into 56 prisons in 23 states – there are close to 4000 state and federal prisons, so they have a long way to go, and the next step is this film as a rallying cry.
